Games consoles sell extremely well when Christmas comes and many of us have one at the top of our list. People’s preferences differ and the one you choose will depend on varying factors.
Price
Due to the economic environment, price will undoubtedly be an important factor. The Xbox 360 wins this one hands down with a console prices starting at £129.99, however a Playstation 3 console costs over double the price at £299.99. So why is there such a big price difference? Let’s compare the 2 and find out.
Internet facilities
Both have internet capabilities but the PS3 has an in-built wireless connectivity so there is no need to buy any extra wires or hardware. The Xbox 360 needs Ethernet cables to connect to the internet with a wireless adapter available for an extra £55.
Downloading games and films
The PS3 has an online store that is largely restricted to games but it also saves the customer the hassle of having to go out and buy it. Its Blu-Ray capabilities also give it a competitive edge over the Xbox 360 which can only play standard DVD’s and CD’s. The 360 does though, have a better range of films available as they have an agreement with Warner and Paramount that permit them to have a small library of films available. The films you download stay on your system for 7 days but once you have started to watch it you have 24 hours to finish the programme or film.
Added extras
PS3 users can install a special version of Linux, which effectively turns their console into a PC; this has been greeted warmly by the more technologically minded user. Sony are also set to release their new project, called PlayTV which will allows all customers to watch all free to air TV programmes. Microsoft’s selling points are their deals with film studios and a potential deal with BBC about future programmes being made available to download via the Xbox 360.
To summarise, a Playstation 3 maybe more expensive but when you consider the necessary add-ons needed for the Xbox the price is not much different. An Xbox console costs £129.99 but that is without a hard drive, you must spend about £200 for one with a sufficient enough hard drive to save your games. Both are great games consoles so consider your options before buying.
The Wii has been the biggest success and offers a different experience but consoles such as the Nintendo DS and PS3 are also fantastic.

i am going to buy a xbox 360 wireless adapter for my xbox 360 and i heard that it only works with some internet routers. which kind???
It should work with all wireless routers except for routers that run on the 5.5 GHz range. Just don’t buy a router that only supports 802.11a which is pretty rare to find.
There are a few things I want you to consider before you buy that wireless adapter. Wireless is a shared network medium. Only one device can transmit at the same time for all devices on the wireless network. It’s unlike a router where when 2 devices go to the Internet at the same time, the router will just divide the speed in half, but both can still send at the same time because the connection is full duplex. WiFi is half duplex meaning it cannot send and receive at the same time which means it cannot divide the bandwidth between all wireless devices.
Also, that Xbox adapter is only for the Xbox. You cannot connect this to a computer once you decide to dump your Xbox. Wireless also has security issues, and even though they can be fixed by setting up security, many end users don’t know how to do it properly.
My suggestion is to buy powerline. Powerline will have more latency than wireless believe it or not, but it won’t be as inconsistent as wireless. If you run a bing to your router, you will normally see a 1 or 2 milisecond delay. Powerline will be 3-4. However, if you run enough pings, you will eventually see one ping 20 miliseconds or more. This is one of the problems with wireless. Powerline being more consistent will give you less jitter.

The powerline kit will come with a CD, but the only reason you would need to run it is if you want to do quality of service. Setting up security is as easy as pushing a button for 2 seconds and then doing it to the seconds adapter within 2 minutes of doing it to the first one. The CD is really only necessary if you have 3 or more powerline devices hooked up. And the CD doesn’t even install a driver. It simply just installs the interface to configure the devices. It doesn’t even load when you boot your computer up.
