I want to be able to run and play Final Fantasy xiv on my pc on at least medium graphics. What parts of my pc do i need to upgrade?
I have a budget of around £150
i forgot to state that as well as my main c drive i also have a 100g and a 40g
Yikes, you’ve got a few issues. You’ll need to split your budget between upgrades.
The most important upgrade would be your graphics card- that’s what determines 75% of your computer’s gaming performance. While your processor could be better, it’s above the anticipated minimum requirement so don’t worry about that.
I recommend upgrading to a Radeon 5670 or GeForce GT240:

While better cards are available within your price range, the 5670 is the fastest low-power consumption model. The GT240 uses even less power, but is slightly slower. Open your computer case and check the label on your power supply. If it’s at least 350W either of those cards will work. If it’s 400W or higher, that’s enough to support a GeForce 9800GT, which is even better.

If your power supply is only 300W, then a Radeon 5570 is your best choice:

Next… a 104gb hard drive is TINY!!! How much space is free? Add a second hard drive (500gb is quite affordable) and install your games there.
Since you’re running Vista (which is a resource hog) I recommended upgrading your RAM. Go to Crucial’s website and run their memory scanner tool to find out exactly what type of memory your computer accepts.
http://www.crucial.com
If your computer has 4 memory slots, you can just add 2gb. If you only have 2 slots, skip upgrading the memory for now, since you’d have to replace your existing RAM with a 4gb set (2×2gb) to go higher.
So in all…. about £80 your graphics card, £35 for a hard drive and maybe £40 for RAM (assuming your motherbord uses DDR2). That would leave you in great shape for your budget. There’s actually a benchmarking tool you can download to test your computer’s performance for FF XIV, see the 2nd link below.
Note that adding components increases your computer’s power usage. With a 2nd hard drive and additional RAM I’m hoping you’ve got at least a 400W power supply. Or maybe just replace your 104gb drive with 500gb and reinstall Vista.
Good luck!
