Rockstar games is gearing up for the April 2010 release of Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360. Reviewers and testers have informed eager gamers that this sandbox style action adventure western video game is the “spiritual” successor to 2004’s release Red Dead Revolver. With an action packed story line, a variety of game play options and many interesting AI characters Red Dead Redemption is promising to be a successful and fun game release.
Red Dead Redemption is set in America in the early 1900’s and focuses around John Marston, a reformed outlaw. Now on the right side of the law Marston has been ordered to kill or capture all of his former gang members, including gang leader and old friend Bill Williamson. While on this mission Marston is hired as bounty hunter by the marshal and his deputies specifically to track down Willamson. Thus providing him with a dual objective and the first two of many missions he will face on his journey.
Along the way Marston meets up with many colorful characters such as a female rancher named Bonnie who he assists in her battles with a group of locals, D.S. MacKenna whose goal is to turn he region into the next Hollywood. As Marston moves across the Mexican border to locate Williamson he comes into contact with revolt leaders, rebel soldiers and aspiring presidents, all needing his assistance.
Open world game play with sandbox environments and free roaming ability combined with frontier towns, prairies and mountain passes Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360 gives players the feel of the Wild West adventure. There are even animals to hunt including cattle, bison, cougars, rattlesnakes, deer, wolves and many more.
Players have variety in their choice of transportations. On foot players can walk run jump and climb, horseback riding and stage coach or train are the other methods of transportation. A major part of the game is the gun play. Gunfights are third person and players can slide to cover, target specific people, blind fire, or free aim. Players can also target specific body parts. Marston’s weapons include pistols, revolvers, rifles, knives; dynamite Molotov cocktails, lassoes Gatling guns and cannons.
Random encounters and mini quests face the player as they move toward the objective. There are hangings, ambushes, animal attacks showdowns, gambling, hunting and side bounties. There are several morality based choices that Marston faces along the way. For example a stagecoach is being robbed, Marston has the choice to stop the robbers and kill them, or join them and reap the rewards of the robbery. This means that the gamer has an effect on Marston’s behavior and success in the game.
This western shoot ‘em up game looks like it will be a lot of fun and many avid gamers, fans of Red Dead Revolver, fans of Rockstar games and anyone who loves action and westerns is waiting impatiently for the mid April release of Red Dead Redemption for Xbox 360. There have been several pre order bonuses offered through Rockstar and Gamestop, but if you haven’t gotten in on them don’t worry you will still be able to purchase or download Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360 as soon as it is released.
