Matthew 1:2. Doesnt make much sense to me.?
“Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,”
This bit of the bible, at the start of matthew’s gospel.
It seems redundant, its a big list of abraham’ss lineage going forwards until it gets to Joseph, to prove that some prophecy was correct about Jesus being the son of god. Ive heard thats true at least, what’s the prophecy?
Main thing though, its so early on that I assume it’s important, but Jesus wasnt related to Joseph. Why go on about how good his ancestors are for so long if hes nothing to do with them. Is it just Matthew trying too hard to get his story to fit with prophecy? Is it just a random observation that’s kinda interesting?
I dont get that it was to make jesus sound more special because he’s related to Abe…surely being the son of god is enough? 
Going over Mary’s bloodline makes more sense…
